Great Free Tools: Below are some of the great free tools we have learned about at Somix.
slping - CLI utility that allows you to ping an IP address on any TCP or UDP port. Very nice.
Getif - A great SNMPv1 MIB browser
Qcheck - This is a nifty utility for running response time, throughput and streaming tests.
Wireshark - A network protocol analyzer for Unix and Windows.
STG - Realtime SNMP graphing utility. You need to know the MIB.
SNMP Informant - Allows you to access low-level, critical performance metrics from Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003 servers and workstations, and you can do it from any SNMP compliant management system. The standard version is free.
TFTP Server - runs on Microsoft Windows. It includes DHCP and syslog servers
FTP Server - runs on Microsoft Windows. Several other free utilities located here
